Teatro alla Scala / La Scala

Teatro alla Scala is one of prime opera houses in Europe and major tourist attraction in Milan. Built in 1778, as a replacement for another theatre ‘Royal Ducal Theatre’ destroyed by fire in 1776, Teatro alla Scala was initially named as “Nuovo Regio Ducal Teatro alla Scala” . Being a part of a performance at La Scala is one of a lifetime opportunity and that too not to be missed. The season starts on December 7, the day of Saint Ambrose. Operas start early in the evening as it’s obligatory that the show must close down before midnight.

Auditorium di Milano

Auditorium di Milano has been a new feather in Milan’s theatrical offerings. Assuming that most of Milan’s theatres have long and rich history behind them, Auditorium is kind of new since it was built in 1999. But the construction was a restoration work of Cinema Teatro whose heritage value dates back to 1939. Since then it had not been much used, but now it houses the famed and respected Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdi. The auditorium has a seating space for 1,400 guests.

Piccolo Teatro - Teatro Grassi

Teatro Grassi was an initiative of Paolo Grassi and Giorgio Strehler in 1947, famous Italian directors who wanted to encourage experimental theatre. The theatre is comparatively constricted with 500 seats and a small stage, yet its known for staging performance that are weaved around “off subjects”. Another new theatre named Teatro Strehler has also been built as a part of the Piccolo Teatro group.

Teatro Nuovo

Teatro Nuovo was one of the most successful works conceptualized by Lancia, born in the year 1938. Art and theatre lover Luigi Pirandello’s friend Remigio Paone looked after the theatre till 1977 after which Franco Ghizzo, a Milanese entrepreneur bought it. The tradition of keeping the spirit of performing arts alive has been undertaken by Franco’s wife and daughter.

Teatro Leonardo da Vinci

Teatro Leonardo da Vinci was started by a group of friends in 1973 which included Gabriele Salvatores and Ferdinando Bruni. Part of the Elf group, it is home to the Quelli di Grock group; an experimental theatre company started in 1976 during the Milanese youth revolution. Dance and comedies performances are its main plus points but it also tries to reinvent itself with old classics.

Teatro Manzoni

The day was 15th May 1850 when Teatro Manzoni first opened its eyes to spectacular welcome from shows, companies, authors and directors. Prominent seven citizens of Milan, namely Louis Rivelli, Cusani Luigi, Alessandro Manzoni, Marquis Apollinare Saporiti Rocca, Leopoldo Pullè, Carlo Cereda and Mr Antonio Mazzorin founded the theatre. Upon the death of Alessandro Manzoni in May 22, 1973, the theatre was dedicated to him and renamed as Teatro Manzoni. Prose and music form the ethereal combination at this theatre.
